About Mrs. Helfricht:
Hi. My name is Mrs. Helfricht. I am the K-3 ESL teacher at Memorial School. I have also taught first, second and third grade at Memorial School. This is my 20th year of teaching!
I have been a lifelong resident of Bergen county, New Jersey. I have many wonderful memories growing up in this area. I live with my husband two sons and two dogs.
We enjoy reading, fitness, travel, culture, language, cooking, eating, dancing, tennis, hiking, nature, shopping and listening to music.
I graduated from William Paterson University in Wayne, New Jersey with a B.A. in Communications and K-8 Certification in Elementary Education. I completed the master's degree program for teachers at Fairleigh Dickinson University in Teaneck, New Jersey and obtained a Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T) and a second certification in English as a Second Language as well as a Supervisor's License. I have also completed a master's plus 30 credits program through TCNJ and online courses.
My first interest in ESL is from helping my mother and her family to speak English. My mother came to America when she was sixteen years old. I learned to speak Polish from my mom and Spanish at school while I was growing up.
While I was in college I worked for the Even Start program where I made home visits to families and helped them to improve their English. I loved the feeling I got from helping other families.
I taught college level E.S.L. Reading/Oral Communication courses in the evenings at Passaic County Community College.
A few summers ago, I completed an ESL summer program teaching level 4 and 5 international high school students for Education First.
I believe it is important to make language learning fun. I enjoy making connections between learning in the classroom and real life experiences. I use an interactive hands-on approach. I enjoy incorporating music, singing, dance, technology, health and wellness into my lessons. Each child is unique. My mission is to utilize various methods of teaching and learning to help each child shine brilliantly.
