Mrs. Byrnes - School Counselor
The elementary school counseling program aims to serve all students in kindergarten through 3rd grade by helping students succeed in school. To achieve this goal the following services are offered for the students:
Individual Counseling – Students have the opportunity to meet with the school counselor individually to explore issues that might interfere with learning and school performance. Issues or concerns a child may have: peer relationships, self-esteem, personal adjustment, school adjustment, family issues, conflict-resolution, and other related social, emotional and behavioral concerns.
Small-Group Counseling - This type of counseling is a secure place for students to discuss and explore common issues affecting their lives with other peers. Groups will take place once a week during lunch for duration of 4-6 weeks, depending on the group. The following concerns may be addressed in the small group setting: Self-esteem, grief/loss, anger, divorce/separation, and social skills/friendship.
Classroom Guidance Lessons - Classroom guidance visits are planned sequential units designed to meet the developmental needs of all students. Some topics that may be covered this year are: expressing our feelings, friendships, bullying, communication, and various character education traits.
Consultation - The counselor frequently consults with teachers and other staff members regarding students. Parents are also encouraged to contact the counselor when they have questions and concerns about their child’s progress and development.
Please contact me if you have any question or concerns. I look forward to getting to know the children and families of Memorial School.
